Sweet Child of Mine

So our boy went back to school this weekend and while the thought made me sad leading up to Saturday, I didn’t cry any tears upon our departure. On the drive to Ft. Worth, my son played appropriate songs for my distraction and enjoyment—the playlist included some George Strait hits and notably Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye,” “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds and Guns & Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine!” I couldn’t cry for laughing so hard. He’s going to have another great year as a Horned Frog.
But I have to share with you a poignant list from my dear friend’s post on Facebook that absolutely hits a homerun in describing why moms cry when they take their babies off to college. Sniff.

Below is a brief summary of survey results, specifically the answer that pertained to the menu…

#5 – I think the weekly menu
a. Has too many choices…....................0%
b. Is nicely varied, keep it up…............85%
c. Favorites available all the time….....15%

The comments that were added included requests for

-smaller meals for smaller families
-more salads
-vegetarian options
-low-carb options
-different recipes

I have heard you and I aim to please. You may have noticed the past two weeks’ menus have included two salad options and the response has been good. This week I’m down to one salad because I snuck a yummy summer soup in… there are also notations for gluten-free (GF) and vegetarian (V) menu options. If you are interested in smaller portions, you must follow the link to order online where you have the option in some cases to choose a half-size entree item.

One other item of note for this week’s menu – if you’ve seen the Spiralizer that was trending earlier this year – the pasta salad features Zucchini Noodles AND Pasta Noodles for all of the zoodle-noodle-kit-and-kaboodle fun you can handle!!!

As always, I’m here for you if you have questions, concerns or suggestions. Have a great week! -Ruth 214-675-1932

Valentine's Day - staying home and having the best meal of the year!

I won’t say that we’ve never gone out for dinner on Valentine’s Day…there was that time that our server at a (now closed) French restaurant insulted my husband and me by telling us that we “just didn’t understand fine dining.” And another year when the establishment lost our reservation and made us wait for an hour and a half. So unless you are at the beginning of a relationship, I am probably not the person to recommend braving the restaurant crowds to eat out this coming Saturday night!
However, I do recommend cooking a meal in that night with your loved one.  This has become a fun tradition for us, whether we cook with another couple or by ourselves. Get a babysitter and send the children to the other side of the house to pretend they are on a camp out. Then you can craft a romantic dinner together and eat by candlelight in the dining room!  Here’s what we are making this Valentine’s Day, and trust me – we will make it TOGETHER:

Appetizer

Lobster Roll Crostini

First Course

Mushroom-Parmesan Soup with Savory Biscotti

Roasted Beet Salad

Main Course

Filet Au Poivre

Truffled Mashed Potatoes

Sauteed Spinach

Dessert

Surprise

You will have to check my instragram account to see what we have for dessert! Follow me @buttersgourmet.

In the shop this week I’m making things that remind me of love – Chicken Parmesan, Caesar Salad, Chocolate Custard Pie…so let me know if you’d like to put some Butterfield Gourmet love on your dinner table! 2015 Menu for Feb 9

Salad:  Simple Shredded Kale with Cranberries - features a garlic-lemon dressing and a pecan-parmesan topping.  $12 serves 2-3 GF

Soup: Rice and Peas – sweet green peas scream Spring! An Italian soup made with arborio rice and some Parmigiano to finish it just right. $15/quart GF

Quiche: Chicken-Olive-Cheddar - quiche is great because you can put anything in the mixture. This savory pie has black olives, sauteed mushrooms, onion and grilled chicken to make it quite different from your average quiche.  $20/pie serves 4-6

Pot pie:  Customer’s Choice – Homestyle Chicken or Curried Chicken ($25) or Beef Pot Roast, Green Chile Stew or Steak & Ale ($30)

Entree: Sweet & Spicy Shredded Pork Tacos – a nice, tangy filling for corn tortillas, add a squirt of lime and some cilantro leaves (toppings and tortillas included). $30 serves 4 GF

Side: Roasted Broccoli - this recipe made me fall in love with the green vegetable.  $10 serves 2-3 GF

Dessert: Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie - a double-crusted, tart fruit pie that is very seasonal. Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream! $22/pie

Have a great week and Happy Spring!
