Good Boy

Dear family,

Woof, woof! I gotta say, life is pretty good for us four-legged creatures when surrounded by two-leggers like you! I remember when you first adopted me like nine years ago and you’d let me sleep with you, and I got so many cuddles and belly rubs! And even after you discovered that I was actually part Great Dane and grew to be so big that I took up your entire back seat/hatchback area, you’d still let me sit in your laps sometimes.

We moved from your first apartment to your first home and I had a bed in every room of the house so I could be near you always, each waking moment (or during nap time too!) And Dad would take me to work with him daily where I got to play with my buddy Bazooka and run races all over the airfield.

Then you welcomed your first little two-legger to the family and she was so cute. I tried not to bark too much ‘cause she was a pretty light sleeper but sometimes I couldn’t help myself. When she learned to crawl and sit up, she’d straddle me like a pony, pull on my ears, grab my tail, and it was all fun…because it meant she loved me. It was hard not to smack her and anyone within a two-foot radiance with my long tail but I really tried not to…

Oh and when she started eating table food!! My whole world changed…scrambled eggs, hot dog bits, cookies, French fries, yummmmmmmmmy! After a year or two, we left your cute little starter home in Round Rock and relocated to Ft. Worth. Go Frogs!! Two more little guys joined the family and I really got the table treats, sometimes on purpose when mom wasn’t looking!

Long walks in the neighborhood, visiting Pops, Cookie and Honey in the big D, chasing squirrels, bunnies, birds and cats, just a few of my favorite things. Yep, it’s all been a lot of fun. I have never stopped loving my time with other doggies and simply being in the room with my family.

I’m awfully tired now and I ache something awful but there is one thing that I wanted to share with you before we say goodbye. I want you to understand that I know for certain that all dogs go to heaven. Where else would the kindest souls and best friends of mankind go at the end of a perfect life? Thank you for being my family, for giving me treats, taking me to the vet, keeping my water bowl full. Thank you for letting me defend you and greet your friends and lay at your feet. I love you very much and I always will. But I am pretty excited to gallop over never-ending grassy fields, play with all sorts of new puppy friends and never know another moment of pain.

Your good boy,

Frank
